Nacha Canvas (Ushuaia, 1990) explores in her work the spatial, temporal and semantic potentialities of language in sculpture. A grouping of stylistic marks singularize this work: the use of heterogeneous materials such as clay, metals and foam rubber; the variation in scale and format allows her to experiment with the shape of that which is rigid and fragile, soft and hard, lasting and transitory; and an intensive work around the evocative power of surfaces as a point of entry toward what is virtual in thought. In this way, her pieces set off from the material play and in the process they become conceptual cyphers, ambiguous devices that without losing their presence in space, they project contradictory forms of existence, creatures that can insert themselves into other narratives and trajectories that range from erotic to archaeological. She lives and works in Buenos Aires.

Fantasía abstracta, Nacha Canvas’ first solo show at BARRO. Curated by Carla Barbero and Javier Villa, the show is a soft and sensorial perspective on abstraction presenting a group of paintings and reliefs produced with techniques developed by the artist, combining foam rubber, clay, steel, plaster and pigments.
